Journeying: Crystal Palace

The place at the end of the rainbow...  well, at the edge of my London map. It was the station name at the end of the line I always wanted to visit but was afraid it was endless grey suburbia that originated from plague pits (Gravesend anyone?).  Well it's not. It's pretty far south, and in fact, Crystal Palace once was glorious.  The park still is. On the Crystal Palace's demise by fire in November 1936, Winston Churchill remarked, "this is the end of an age." Now it's marked by an eccentric town centre, and equally charming dinosaur park from the 19th century.  Still worth a visit.
