5.00am Thursday morning

I was woken this morning by the sound of this van taking out two traffic lights and flipping.  It was a god-awful noise, and I woke startled and groping in the dark thinking the rioters had driven through my local shop.  The last 4 days of constant national violence and discourse has imprinted itself on my psyche, and all my fears were summoned and laid out in this one waking moment of hard noise.   In terms of these particular crossroads, this has been the 4th such accident in 6 months, with two previous fatalities. This driver was pulled unhurt from the van and emergency services were there within minutes. Not a way to start a new day!  But perhaps fitting on another level?

To my future self, I was listening to Crystal Castles - Not in Love, and I had that weird dream about Antoine...

I'm pining for you Belarus

You've been landing in unused airports, and sleeping in the woods, hanging with partizans and lighting bonfires...

Malibu

I I had just two days on the ground in LA, but was lucky enough to see my dear friend, Joe.  We escaped to Malibu for a couple of hours and dipped our feet in the Pacific. Such a sunny contrast to London... sunny and strange. Ahhh America, you're such an enigma.

This was the song I couldn't get out of my head
