Our Captain

Mustaffa, our Captain, is in his early 80s and seemingly as fit as a fiddle despite diabetes. First mate was his gentle teenaged grandson, who translated for us in halting English, Mustaffa's experiences as a morse code operator 30 years before he turned to the sea. He began his career signaling with lights from the hills above his village, (most notably responsible for communicating emergency services in after a great earthquake that racked the region in the late 40s and took his sister's life). Having lived in Cyprus for 6 months, it was something to learn of the stories of those on the 'other side'. I couldn't get the details, but he was certainly played a part in the Cyprus invasion of the early 70s - something so secret, he still couldn't discuss details years later. He makes an excellent vegetable stew. Interested in booking his services? It's surprisingly affordable for 3 days and 3 nights at sea!
