Grandfather

Beautiful photos by Sam Peacocke

Grandad traveled up to Wellington and Auckland for the 70th anniversary of the Battle of the River Plate, WWII's first great naval battle. He was a 16 year old seaman boy at the time, and one of only a handful still living today who were on the HMS Achilles.

The guns you see are off the original ship now to be found at the Devonport naval base. New Zealand looks just so beautiful going into christmas, while tiny little snow flakes are coming down outside my window.
