Norm's River Roadhouse, Nashville

This tidy little place is just down the road from Kelly and Matt's place. Finally I got a chance to pop in on the way home tonight. We were inbetween gigs that day but I still got to speak to Norm himself and enjoyed poking around out back and downstairs. It's a real local joint that plays Americana and bluegrass and is well known in Nashville for its live music.

God loves this roadsign

...and I love this bat-eared building and music score bird lines (below).

East Nashville

East Nashville is the interesting, eclectic and creative part of the city. We had lunch at Jack White's favourite deli and then vintage-shopped our little hearts out. Woodland Studios (above) is where Emmylou Harris, Johnny Cash, Ryan Adams, Gillian Welch (who owns it now) and Dusty Springfield have recorded (amongst many, many others).

Kelly and Nicola push Nicola's little girl Lola. (She's got apple pie cheeks and legs plump enough to gnaw on).

The light today was so American. All flat and strong and golden. The weather was balmy. So unlike last night when it was 0 degrees when we got home to the woods. Memphis tomorrow!

a picture..

Almost Emmylou, but not quite.

Clancy, meet JB - he played fiddle in Emmylou's band during the Trio tour in the early 80s. That's as close as I've got so far!

Hitting the honky tonks...

all ears.

Tennessee Belles

"I rode my bicycle past your window last night
I rollerskated to your door at daylight
It almost seems like you're avoiding me
I'm OK alone but you've got something I need, well

Refrain:
I've got a brand new pair of rollerskates
You've got a brand new key
I think that we should get together and
Try them on to see
I been lookin' around awhile
You got something for me
Oh, I got a brand new pair of rollerskates
You got a brand new key

I ride my bike, I rollerskate, don't drive no car
Don't go too fast, but I go pretty far
For somebody who don't drive, I been all around the world
Some people say I done all right for a girl

I asked your mother if you were at home
She said yes, but you weren't alone
Oh, sometimes I think that you're avoiding me
I'm OK alone but you got something I need, well"
