Soviet sunshine



All images taken in the Communist Museum, Prague. The picture below made me think of Mr. Adam White! Don't ask me why - maybe it's the "timely arrival" and "work" part.





This is Jan Palach. A student who, in 1969, lit himself on fire in order to draw attention to the disastrous hardline policies of communism. The anniversary of his death twenty years later sparked a protest that would lead to a successful change of government in the Czech Republic. In this sense, his death achieved something. Imagine believing in something so passionately you would set yourself alight. Read about him. He deserves to be remembered. Below, a photo of a tv playing footage from that 1989 protest - "We want a different government!"
